Some Things Cannot Go Unsaid – “In her eyes” (Thanks, Josh Groban)
Some things cannot go unsaid. They need to be voiced. Sometimes it is a cry for help bursting forth from a person in danger. Sometimes it is a ear bursting yell from the spectator beside you when the underdog team wins the game in the last second of time on the clock. It could even be the moan of “It is finished” passing through the parched lips of the Savior on the cross. Some things cannot go unsaid. Or in this case, unwritten.
What I cannot permit to go unsaid is my gratitude for guidance, but not just generic guidance. No, it is the guidance of a particular person. Yes, like others who may be reading this piece, I also in my life have received guidance from my parents, teachers, coaches, pastors, friends, neighbors, etc.. They faithfully fulfilled that role.
But, no one surpassed what Joyce did. The necklace I wear, but that few seldom see, carries reminders I see and feel every day, reminders of her guidance. On that chain, and on either side of a blue gem stone the color of her eyes, are crosses. The one on the left, over my heart, is the one she wore. The one on the right is mine. Her eyes and her heart, what she perceived and what she valued and thought – they still guide, even fifty-four months later.
That is the volitional and emotional back drop for what came out of my throat within the last thirty minutes. I was listening to Josh Groban’s version of “In Her Eyes”. I also am the man in the song who was “trying to love her unlike any other”.
I invite you to click here (www.youtube.com/watch?v=dcTfpL3iyMk ) to listen as you follow along with the lyrics. Enjoy. And, take the time to consider what it would mean to you to be in a love walk for which these lyrics would be appropriate.
She stares through my shadow
She sees something more
Believes there’s a light in me
She is sure
And her truth makes me stronger
Does she realize
I awake every morning
With her strength by my side
I am not a hero
I am not an angel
I am just a man
Man who’s trying to love her
Unlike any other
In her eyes I am
This world keeps on spinning
Only she stills my heart
She’s my inspiration
She’s my northern star
I don’t count my possession
All I call mine
I will give her completely
To the end of all time
I am not a hero
I am not an angel
I am just a man
Man who’s trying to love her
Unlike any other
In her eyes I am
In her eyes I see the sky and all I’ll ever need
In her eyes time passes by and she is with me
I am not a hero
I am not an angel
I am just a man
Man who’s trying to love her
Unlike any other
In her eyes I am
In her eyes I am
